Turnout in 2nd stage of Shura elections 12.2%

Higher Elections Commission (HEC) Chief Abdel-Moez Ibrahim said on Friday 17/02/2012 the turnout in the second round of the Shura Council elections hit 12.2 percent.

The polls were held in Giza, Sharqiya, Kafr el-Sheikh, Qalyoubia, Aswan, Sohag, Luxor, Beni Sweif, Menya, Matrouh, Beheira, Suez, Ismailia and Port Said.

As many as 3.6 million from around 25 million eligible people cast their votes in the second phase, said the HEC chief.

Ibrahim estimated the invalid votes at 252,899.
